The Proposal Story

My browser miraculously updated itself! Seriously not sure what happened but somehow it updated which means I can post. It's been a whirlwind of the past few weeks. I went on vacation, bought a new car and one tiny little detail: got ENGAGED!!!!

I knew a proposal was coming soon but not just sure when. David told me he was in "stealth" mode as of February 1 and wasn't mentioning anything else about a ring, so to surprise me. I was trying not to get my hopes up but it was killing me with the waiting- I thought I had it figured out at least 2 different times. So on March 31, it happened- to my complete suprise.

Some of his family had come into town that weekend so I spent the day with the girls shopping while he went fishing with the guys. He had mentioned something about going prayerwalking at church later that evening- this wasn't too unusual because he does this often. He said the pastor would have the church open for us. I almost told him I didn't want to go because I had a bad headache but I went anyway.

We got to the church and each took a side of the church to prayer walk and then met up front. There was a bench there and he said "Let's pray." I thought this might be it and expected him to start praying out loud with a proposal. He got up and said, "It's a good time for a Hershey's kiss" and pulled out this plastic kiss I had given him for Valentine's day. (Note: Our first kiss will be on our wedding day and Hershey's kisses are a tradition for us.) He took the top off and there were 3 hershey's kisses glued to the bottom (he always gives me 3) and the ring was sitting on top of the kisses. My mind was reeling!

He got down on one knee and said "I can't think of a better place to propose then at the altar at a church that supports the children's home..Will you marry me?" After 5 minutes (he said it was only 30 seconds) of complete silence- I couldn't utter a word!!! I finally managed to get out a yes. He then put a beautiful ring on my finger (pics to come soon!) and we prayed together. I then called my parents (which took forever to reach them!) and then we drove back home, stopping at this spot on Caddo lake that I've always wanted to stop at- just as the sun was setting. We went back and told his family and then called and texted friends and family.

It was a perfect proposal- very simple yet perfect. David said he wanted to honor God with it- I think he succeeded! The date is Sept 8, 2012- a mere 145 days, 15 hours, 48 minutes away- but who's counting?
